Amazing insight into sustainable energy
On Thursday 25 November the Benelux Business Club held a special event in Malmo. More precisely in Ekocentrum – 20 kilometres outside Malmo in the area called Sege Park. The participants from Denmark all met at the Airport Hilton in Kastrup and went together to Sege Park.
Sege Park was a hospital from 1930 until 1990. In 1993 the Swedish Government decided to make it into the new Ekocentrum (there is also an Ekocentrum in Gothenburg) with the purpose of doing research and development in sustainable energy.
From a Danish perspective Malmo is sometimes perceived as a small city with a limited profile. But after visiting Ekocentrum all the Danish visitors had a different and more sharp view of the city.
Malmo is the city in Sweden that is investing the most in solar power. Sege Park has the largest and most spectacular photovoltaic plant with a total area of 1250 square meters and a maximum effect of 166 kW.
Malmo has ambitious goals for the future when it comes to the environment. In 2020 Malmo is planning to be climate neutral and in 2030 all electric power for the whole of Malmo is to be supplied by sustainable energy.
During the event the Business Club was presented to some very interesting lectures on how far Malmo is from the target and what the future looks like when it comes to sustainable energy.
Architect Torsten Persson from ’Serviceförvaltningen Malmö stad’ introduced ’SEGE Park – the Future City’.

All in all it was a fantastic event. Besides having time to see the exhibition there was also time for mingling and dining (organic food of course).
Thanks a lot to the Ekocentrum for hosting the Benelux Business Club. |
